Planning for this year’s events for the city is well underway with a varied and exciting programme coming your way for 2020. Some of the city’s firm favourites will be returning once again with Dinosaurs roaming Lancaster once more and the full flavour of Italy hitting the streets in September as well as some new events which include a 1940s day in May and a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party in July to coincide with the Dukes Play in the Park which is Alice in Wonderland. Let’s not forget all the events that we as a BID support will also be happening including Lancaster Pride, Lancaster Music Festival and Lancaster Jazz Festival, so get your diaries out and get booking in the dates for fun filled year of things going on here in Lancaster.
The first three events of the year will be our Easter Event on Thursday April 9th, 1940s day on Friday 8th May (which is the Bank Holiday) and Dino Day on Sunday 7th June.
For Easter we will be bringing all things animal themed to the city with all things fluffy such as chicks, rabbits, lambs with a stage show, actors, animals, arts and crafts and stalls on the day. We will also be running an Easter trail for this event with eggs hidden in stores around the city.
For 1940s day we are celebrating all things vintage and the 75th anniversary of VE Day. With a stage show of music from this era, vintage stalls arts and crafts and fairground rides, a piper and lowering of the standards at 2.55 this looks set to be a swinging affair. We will be doing collaboration with stores for this event with ration cards for the children as well so there really is something for everyone.
Our Dino Day has been moved to a Sunday this year to ensure a huge footfall boost on a usually quieter day of the week. With visits from Zeus the T-Rex, Ritchie the Raptor and some new visitors this year in the form of Spence the Spinosoraus and Tank the Triceratops . We will once again be holding our Ranger School where little explorers can learn all about Dinosaurs, how to track them and meet some friendly baby dino’s as well as the usual arts and crafts and fun filled activities. Once again we will be having a dino trail for this event as well that will involve businesses getting involved.
