The Friends of Lancaster City Museum are hosting an ‘Art Safari’ weekend on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 February 2020 and are appealing to city centre venues who would like to join in.
The ‘Art Safari’ is a self-guided walk, in printed map form, and was first launched by the Friends of the City Museum with the support of Lancaster BID in April 2019. ‘Art Safari’ maps are available from Lancaster Visitor Information Centre and all participating Art Safari venues. The Art Safari encourages people to explore the artwork on display within a variety of exhibitions spaces, including galleries and shops, in the city. Following on from the success of similar self-guided tours, like the “Real Ale and Tipple Trail”, the guide encourages visitors to embark upon a circular route around the city, stopping off at a variety of locations (including shops, cafes and pubs and museums) to admire the artwork on display.
Throughout the Art Safari weekend in February, city centre venues are encouraged to host events such as artist talks, quizzes, live painting, craft activities, or competitions to encourage visitors and to highlight the vibrant creative scene in the city.
During the Art Safari weekend in February, the Friends of the City Museum will be hosting an evening at the City Museum to celebrate the current temporary art exhibition ‘Wild at the Margins’ by local artists Janet Robinson and Fay Collins, as well as launching children’s drawing and creative writing competitions.

We hope that visitors will be encouraged to make a day of it and explore the Safari venues across the city, including the brilliant temporary art exhibition ‘Wild at the Margins’, which is on display at the City Museum until 01 March 2020. ”
