Street Aid Donation Terminals

Lancaster District Street Aid offers an alternative to giving money to people on the street. Every penny donated is spent on helping people leave the streets behind and to rebuild their lives in a new home.

Since launching last year, the initiative has already raised over £6,000 in donations.

Early grants awarded have included:

  • Martial arts lessons and (thanks to Stagecoach) bus passes so the man can get to them
  • A tumble dryer to help a family dry their washing. This means their accommodation doesn’t get damp from hanging clothes indoors, and they don’t have pay laundrette fees
  • Replacement identification documents for a woman who had lost hers in a fire. This meant she could get a tenancy.

To ensure the scheme has the funds to support even more people, Lancaster BID is seeking businesses which could offer window space to host a contactless donation terminal to raise awareness and accpet donations. Locations should ideally be in high footfall locations and the window needs to be in an accessible location to encourage people to donate.
