This years Reindeer Day is being held on Sunday December the 8th, so get excited to meet Santa and all of his reindeers, who are making their way to St Nics Arcades.
The Cairngorm Reindeer Herd is Britain’s only free-ranging herd of reindeer found in the Cairngorm mountains in Scotland. These tame and friendly animals are a joy to all who come and see them. Lancaster BID has only ever booked reindeer for our events from Cairngorm Reindeer, Lancaster BID Staff have visited the reindeer at their base in the Cairngorms so can personally vouch for the welfare of the animals.
The animals spend their year roaming freely in the Cairngorm Mountains which offer the only area of the UK which provides their natural sub-Arctic ecosystem and full space to roam in their natural environment. The reindeer are only taken on tour for 2 weeks each year with animals always being displayed in large pens with no direct contact with visitors and for no longer than 3 hours at a time. The owners of the herd are passionate about the welfare of their animals and the Christmas period is used to educate the public whilst raising funds to support the upkeep of the reindeer throughout the year.
