LANCASTER & DISTRICT STREET AID

12th November 2020

At the BID Breakfast in February 2020 we decided we were going to have a 5 point plan to tackle ASB in the city. One of those points was to try and improve the homeless/rough sleeper situation in the city. Tony (BID Manager) joined the Homeless Advisory Group chaired by Cllr Caroline Jackson that meets at least once a month. From the many meetings along with key partners: Lancaster City Council and The Police we are launching a campaign called:

Lancaster and District Street Aid

The main goal of the campaign is to give the public an alternative way of donating money rather than just giving direct to people on the street. This is where we need your help if possible. We are looking for donation points across the city. The donation points will be small contactless terminals which enable members of the public to make a donation simply by tapping their card. The terminals will be funded by Lancaster BID and our key partners and all the money raised will be distributed to the people or organisations that need it the most.

Cllr Caroline Jackson said “We are excited to be part of this initiative which has been developed and led by the BID. Local businesses are generous in supporting homeless and ex-homeless people in this difficult time and we really appreciate your involvement.”

We would really like to launch the campaign in December, so if any business is interested in hosting a terminal please will you get in touch asap with [email protected].

Lancaster BID and the city council will run a regular series of comms and there will be opportunities for supporters to be featured in press releases and online publicity. This will gain valuable FREE publicity for businesses which get involved.
